Chatting with a Coach
Chatting with a digital coach on GuidanceAI is straightforward. Here is how it works.
Starting a Chat
- Go to your Dashboard and click on a coach from your Purchased Coaches section.
- A new conversation opens automatically.
- Type your message in the input box at the bottom of the screen.
- Press Enter or click the Send button.
How Responses Work
When you send a message, the coach responds with streaming text -- you will see the response appear word by word in real-time. This gives you a natural, conversational experience.
All messages are saved automatically to the database. You do not need to do anything to preserve your conversation.
How Conversations Flow
Coaches follow a natural coaching-style conversation:
- Discovery -- the coach starts by understanding your situation, asking one focused question at a time
- Deepening -- after a few exchanges, the coach begins sharing relevant insights alongside any remaining questions
- Guidance -- once the coach understands your context, it shifts to providing actionable recommendations and concrete next steps
This mirrors how a real expert would work with you -- listening first, then advising.
Coach Expertise
Each coach uses its specialised knowledge to provide domain-specific advice. The quality of the response depends on:
- The coach's configured instructions (its personality and expertise)
- Its knowledge base (documents the developer has uploaded)
- Your conversation context -- the coach considers your recent messages and memories from past sessions when responding
AI Disclaimer
Below the chat input, you will see a disclaimer reminding you that responses are generated by AI. While coaches provide helpful guidance, they should not be treated as a substitute for professional advice.
Be specific in your questions. The more detail you provide, the more useful and relevant the coach's response will be.
